The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has halted an international operation selling clarity enhanced diamonds over the internet using counterfeit GIA Diamond Grading Reports to falsify the quality of diamonds sold. The Gemological Institute of America does not grade clarity enhanced diamonds as a policy. No jeweller would ever buy a diamond without seeing the stone first. Buying a diamond solely on the contents of a certificate would be like picking your lady by measurements alone.

Amber is one of the oldest stones used in jewelry, dating back to lists compiled by Assyrian jewellers around 1000 B.C. The Greeks believed amber to be the Tears of the Gods or solidified sunshine. This gem is a bargain for pennies per millennia, while also spanning the seasons for fashion. This summer and fall color now reaches spring’s brown-out 2004, saying good-bye to black. The Miami Herald’s Erika Bolstad states that “the new yellow is defined by what it’s not: It’s definitely not the lemon yellow of a Key West cottage, and it’s more evolved that the avocado hues of the 1970’s. It’s an amber-colored palette, and it’s everywhere. The prediction from Leatrice Eisman of the Pantone Color Institute, forecasters of consumer colors, is that we are only in the beginning of the trend. Eisman says we are in an age where warm colors are comforting, and “we need all the nurturing we can get.” Baltic amber is the most prized and valuable; it is also the only amber that comes in an array of colors. We import direct from Latvia and have an incredible collection of amber in the most beautiful colors of yellow, red, and even rare green amber.

Amber, diamond, and jet are the only gems of vegetative origin.

Due to the ability of our experienced team and steady hands, the seemingly impossible can now be done with our new self-contained laser welder. In keeping up with the constant advancements of technology, we will continue our mastery in the fine art of jewelry design, repair, and restoration. The laser can be used for welding platinum, gold, silver, titanium and other alloys (all of the traditional jewelry metals and base metals). The precision of the computer controlled spot-welder coupled with the small heat-affected zone and precise positioning of jewelry under a stereo-microscope allows us, as highly skilled jewelers, to offer you a broader range of service, with a 70% stronger weld than if the article was soldered by traditional methods. We now have the ability to fuse platinum jewelry to see a seamless product, restore vintage and antique jewelry, fabricate or repair fine detailed jewelry, and make repairs in heat sensitive areas. It is at its greatest use, however, in facilitating the execution of even more challenging designs allowing our imaginations to run rampant.

One Rock Harder

The basis of a true team is fluid communication and giving always more. The key-player who has made it possible for me to be in Grayton and Pensacola is my co-designer, and metal-smith Jeff Spencer. I can say without reservation, that Jeff is the finest metal-smith I have had the honor of working with!

Jeff will take any design concept and always add a surprise innovation of detail and function. That extra detail, the perfection he demands in his work, is what I believe defines a true craftsman’s desire and drive to always give more of himself.

These characteristics define his integrity and make him an integral part of the present and future of Rock Hard Designs. Jeff and I share the North American Designer of Choice Award for all his gifts to our team. He is unfailingly one rock harder.
